Team IZOD wins Providence 15U Championship

This past weekend in Providence Hoop Group Jam Fest, Sports U Team IZOD 15U won its second Championship of this early AAU Elite season. Play started on Friday night with Sports U Team IZOD 15U defeating NY Upstate Elite a program which is lead by former Syracuse University and NBA player John Wallace the final score was 68-33 high scorer for the game was Tyree Sykes with 22 pts and 24 rebounds. On Saturday Team IZOD played their second game of pool play and defeated Mass Evolution by a score of 77- 32, Team IZOD was lead by Tarin Smith of St Anthony with 18 Pts.

On Sunday in playoff play Sports U started quarterfinal play with the West Chester Hawks the halftime score was Sports U 31 Hawks 24 but in the second half Sports U went on 14 pt run lead by Wade Baldwin from Immaculata 6 pts and finished the game by a final score 54-32. In the semi finals Sports U went up against New Heights a team they had defeated in the March spring fling in a close game and a contest which promised to be exciting. In the Spring Fling Game Sports U was lead by Quadri Moore who was home for the Providence trip. But stepping up big time for Sports u was 6'8 Chris Wright of St Peters Prep who set the tone for the game with his relentless inside play rebounding and blocking shots and Ashton Lofton of Hillside HS who lead Sports U in scoring and assist with 12pts and 8 assists.

In the Championship game Sports U Team IZOD played Team Scan. Sports U was dominated in the early going as Team Scan built a 14 pt lead. Late in the 2nd half Sports U was able to go on a run which culminated with Sports U tying the game with 2 seconds left and taking the game in to over time. In the first overtime period both teams scored only 1 basket which resulted in a second overtime. In the second overtime period with the scored tied 52-52 Coach Cas Wade called for a play to be executed with 8 seconds left on the clock with good defensive play by Team Scan Wade Baldwin rose up to take a 20ft 3pt shot which he drained leaving no time on the shot for a 55-52 win. Wade Baldwin also lead all scorers with 20pts.
